Paediatric Myth Busting
Presented by Patrick Ennis
Wednesday 23rd January 2019 - 7:30PM
I am an Advanced Paramedic currently working in the NWAS Children’s Transformation team. I am also undertaking an Advanced Paediatric Practice MSc, and spend one day each week on clinical placement in the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital ED.
During my studies and my clinical practice I have come across a lot of information that has made me challenge some of the beliefs that we have in the ambulance service relating to children. The aim of the session is to cover some of these commonly held beliefs around children and to look at whether there is any evidence to back these beliefs up, or whether it’s time to change our thinking.
The session will cover ‘myths’ such as: Fever is dangerous and must be treated; Salbutamol doesn’t work in under 1’s; Children decompensate without warning; and many more.
