Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding Children

Course Type

About this course

Domestic Abuse and Safeguarding Children is a must for you if you work with adults who have children. Domestic Abuse can happen in any family to a parent of either sex and you need to know what action to take to minimise the significant impact this has on children in the household. Domestic Abuse is occurring at an increasingly younger age and this course will also raise your awareness of the different ways in which younger women and teenagers experience abuse.

You will learn about the current safeguarding frameworks that exist to protect children from abuse such as the Multi Agency Risk Assessment Conference (MARAC), and specific risk assessments to measure the likelihood of significant harm to children. Domestic Abuse is a common factor in child deaths and this course is designed to enhance your awareness of the explicit risks to children and young people.

This course will give you an understanding of basic skills and abilities around:

  • The impact that witnessing domestic violence can have on children and young people
  • A clear definition of Domestic Abuse
  • How witnessing domestic violence impacts on children and young people
  • How to address issues of domestic violence
  • Recognising and responding to domestic violence and its effects on children
  • Principles and procedures for safeguarding children
  • Learning how to signpost to appropriate others as necessary
